WILL SMITH PLAYS NIGERIAN DOCTOR IN A RECENTLY RELEASED HOLLYWOOD MOVIE

‘Concussion’, released on Christmas day, 25  december 2015, which stars Will Smith, is based on a true life story written by Nigerian born Dr. Bennet Omalu.
Dr. Omalu is a forensic pathologist who, after conducting an autopsy on famous American
footballer, Mike Webster, discovered a new disease, chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE. CTE is a neuro-degenerative disease that occurs as a result of repeated brain trauma. Over time, it causes depression, dementia, and other behavioral changes. Omalu linked the disease with American football players, who over the course of their career receive repeated blows to their heads due to the nature of the sport. Omalu’s discovery caused a lot of controversy in the American National Football League, NFL, with many questioning the safety of the sport.
He wrote a book on his discovery, ‘Play Hard, Die Young’ on which the movie is based. He is currently the chief medical examiner of San Joaquin County, Calif. and a professor in the ‘UC’ Davis Department of Medical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Will Smith plays Omalu in ‘Concussion’ which WAS released on Christmas day, December 25 2015.
