Best Laptop 2016

Thanks to a razor-thin bezel, the Dell XPS 13 crams a vibrant and sharp 13-inch display into an 11-inch chassis, making it one of the most compact ultra-portables ever. This 2.7-pound laptop also dhas fast performance capabilities, cudos to its Intel 6th Generation Core processor and SSD. The non-touch-screen version of this machine can last about 12 hours on a charge, giving you plenty of endurance. Dell also sells a version with a sharper, quad-HD touch display. Overall, the new XPS 13 is the best lightweight laptop for the cash.

Microsoft, HP, others donate 22,500 laptops to Schools in Anambra State

A consortium of Internet and communication technology infrastructure and service providers led by the Galaxy Backbone Ltd, Microsoft, HP and others have donated  22,500 laptops to secondary schools in Anambra State.
The Managing Director of the GalaxynBackbone, Mr. Gerald Ilukwe, disclosed this at the inauguration of the state Secondary Schools Connectivity and Education Programme and presentation of cheques to its technology partners by Governor Peter Obi in Awka, on Thursday.
Ilukwe said the consortium was committed  to collaborating with  the state government to improve the quality of education in secondary schools in the state.
“In the 21st Century no qualitative education is possible without computerisation and Internet access,” Ilukwe said.
He said the state was the first in the country in 2010 to computerise and provide internet access to over 100 secondary schools.
He described the inauguration as an extension of the same initiative to cover all secondary schools numbering over 400, spread across the state

Real thumbs up to these great companies!

How to use the Google calculator:

Google’s calculator tries to understand the problem you are attempting to solve without requiring you to use special syntax. However, it may be helpful to know the most direct way to pose a question to get the best results. Listed below are a few suggestions for the most common type of expressions (and a few more esoteric ones).

Most operators come between the two numbers they combine, such as the plus sign in the expression 1+1.

Operator  Function  Example
+ addition  3+44
-  subtraction  13-5
*  multiplication  7*8
/  division  12/3
^ exponentiation (raise to a power of)  8^2
% modulo (finds the remainder after division) 8%7
choose  X choose Y determines the number of ways of choosing a set of Y elements from a set of X elements  18 choose 4
th root of  calculates the nth root of a number  5th root of 32
% of  X % of Y computes X percent of Y 20% of 150

Some operators work on only one number and should come before that number. In these cases, it often helps to put the number in parentheses.

Operator  Function  Example
sqrt  square root  sqrt(9)
sin, cos, etc. trigonometric functions (numbers are assumed to be radians)  sin(pi/3)
tan(45 degrees)
ln  logarithm base e  ln(17)
log logarithm base 10  log(1,000)

A few operators come after the number.

Operator  Function  Example
!  factorial  5!

Other good things to know

You can force the calculator to try and evaluate an expression by putting an equals sign (=) after it.

Should Evolution Be Taught In High School?

Microbiologist Carl Woese is well known as an iconoclast. Indeed, few biologists have so thoroughly shaken the tree of life as he did when he proposed that there are not two major branches -- prokaryotes, whose cells lack nuclei, and eukaryotes who possess nuclei, including all animals, plants, fungi, and protists -- but rather three. "Prokaryotes", Woese argued, do not represent a cohesive category, and should be split into two deeply divergent lineages: the Bacteria, with which everyone is reasonably familiar, and the Archaea, superficially similar organisms that are less commonly encountered as many of them reside in extreme environments. What's more, studies of genetic data suggested that the Archaea are actually more closely related to eukaryotes -- including humans -- than they are to bacteria.

                                  Three-domain tree
Woese's three-domain tree of life. From Wikimedia Commons.
At 79 years of age, Woese is still shaking things up. Most recently, he stated in an interview with Wired that,
My feeling is that evolution shouldn't be taught at the lower grades. You don't teach quantum mechanics in the grade schools. One has to be quite educated to work with these concepts; what they pass on as evolution in high schools is nothing but repetitious tripe that teachers don't understand.
Woese is no supporter of so-called "alternatives" to evolution, and has no patience for "any intrusion of religious ideas in the name of science". Rather, his point is that evolution -- the foundational principle of modern biology -- is too complex to be dealt with reliably at junior levels, and should be introduced at the college level where it can be addressed more appropriately.
Woese's proposal surely will raise the ire of many scientists and teachers alike. And while I disagree strongly with his conclusion, I am sympathetic to the frustration apparent in his premise.
In addition to carrying out research in genome evolution, I teach an upper-year university course in evolution. In that capacity, I interact predominantly with biology majors who have completed a minimum of two years of undergraduate education in the life sciences. This means that I can expect them to possess at least a working understanding of genetics, cell biology, anatomy, physiology, and ecology by the time they get to my course. I then have almost 30 hours of lecture time to explain the basics of evolutionary theory to them. I like to think that my students leave the course with a reasonable comprehension of evolutionary science, but when we part company at the end of the semester we all know that ours has been an exercise in surface-scratching at best.
In fact, much of my effort is devoted simply to clarifying serious misconceptions about evolution that these educated young adults inevitably bring with them to the class. Each semester, I fully expect many upper-year biology majors to be surprised to learn, among many other examples, that:
  • Humans are not descended from chimpanzees.
  • Scientific theories are well-supported explanations of scientific facts.
  • Individual organisms do not evolve in response to environmental challenges.
  • Animals do not do things for the good of their species.
  • Natural selection is the opposite of random chance.
  • Not every feature of an organism represents an adaptation.
  • Vestigial does not mean non-functional.
  • Modern frogs are not more closely related to modern fishes than mammals are.
  • There is no progressive pattern in evolution leading to humans as the pinnacle.
  • Although humans are now the only living members of the group, several species of hominids co-existed in the past.

Technology That Empowers Me

All technology is empowering. The simple fact that I can write my thoughts about any given topic and post them for the world  to see is empowering. its fun for me to write.
I enjoy all types of new technology. New computers, cell phones, software, websites, plug-ins, pretty much anything. If I can get my hands on it, and its compatible with my laptop, I’ll play with it.. try to figure it out.. and make it useful, or at the very least useful to me.  Like snapshot ad ons,  programs that allows users to snap there web pages without stress. I hardly use it, but it is nice., customizable user interface, nice to put on a flash drive or something if needed.  I hardly use it because I always have a web browser open, and facebook open in one tab (and who knows how many other tabs open).

today, technology has taken the world by storm and it is raging seriously with awesome, acquaintance, with the growing population of the world,
i remember those days, back in the 90s, when mobile phone was an illusion in my area, you can only contact your loved ones with the help of letters posted through postal services, and most times it could take several days, weeks or months depending on the location. now those are by gone! that is to say, a faster way of getting information accross to the other end, was borne in that area, mobile phone and several forms of technological gadgets,

For me i would say that networking, has seriously impacted into peoples life, ability to get all round information about the changing world, what so ever you want to know, through networking you can find, its indeed awesome.
